GOLD QUARTZ IRON SPECIMEN .77 GRAM GOLD AND QUARTZ

Description: NATIVE GOLD QUARTZ SPECIMEN from CALIFORNIA'S MOTHER LODE Ruler is 1/4" wide (6 mm). U.S. 10 cent coin is 17 mm in diameter. Specimen weight: .77 Grams - 12 Grains Size: 17.4X9.2X4.77 mm Intruded with precious metal, quartz become highly collectible. Now we've entered the mystical realm of GOLD! This is an interesting and, I daresay, rare piece; a good size for a micromount. Most black intrusions associated with gold are some manner of iron mineral. I can't put a name on this one, but it reflects very little light. In other words, it doesn't sparkle. The gold crystals lined up alongside this dark mineral are quite lustrous. Granted, it's a small specimen, but should be a welcome addition to your gold collection. I don't sell low grade gold ores. I sell naturally-occurring gold quartz ores with visible gold. These high-grade beauties are expensive to acquire and even harder to find. Prices aren't based on the amount of gold, but on the authenticity, rarity and collectibility of specimens. U.S. SHIPPING - $4.00 (includes USPS tracking to all U.S. destinations) INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS S&H $16.00 FAST REFUND OFFERED (If, for any reason, you're not happy with this item) For years, I poured through old mining dumps with a pocket lens. Within a countless number of promising rock piles, I observed every color of the rainbow; white, orange, yellow, red rust, black, and cindery-looking rocks. Anything that looked auriferous was examined. In all that time, I never find one piece containing visible gold. That still seems remarkable given the law of averages and the sheer number of rocks involved. Granted, when you're blessed with a rich claim, finding gold may seem rather easy. Having gold stare you in the face every day is quite a luxury, really. Most small-scale artisanal miners will tell you a far different story. They long ago reached the same conclusion as me, i.e. "there's no easy ounces." That's the reality. Yet, having spent years in the trade and in the goldfields of North American, I believe a person stands a much better chance now than ever before of locating a potentially profitable gold deposit. Twenty five years ago, no one forsaw gold prices increasing six or seven times. Knowing that, who in their right mind would have sold their finds? Problem is, when you're in survival mode and your beans play out, a man does what a man must. Dealers, pawn shop brokers operating 30 years ago, and long term hoarders should be whistling Dixie about now. If you ever had a hankering to try your hand gold mining, there's never been a better time. Super-heated hydrothermal solutions, associated with volcanic activity, carry dissolved gold along with silica. Under intensely-high pressure, this aqueous mix fills natural fissures and faults in major geological formations. Contact alteration zones are interfaces between larger rock formations. Oftimes, contacts become the recipients of metals carried by these hot waters. Silicon dioxide and other dissolved minerals like gold, silver, copper, and lead crystallize and harden inside these quartz veins. A similar chemistry and metallogenesis happens inside much larger geological formations. Contact zones are ideal locations for prospectors to hone in on. If canyons, creeks, rivers, arroyos, et al drain and carry alluvial material away from these contact zones, a prospector/miner may be in business. COLORADO RIVER POTHOLES At the eastern end of Laguna Dam, about ten miles northeast of Yuma, lie the Arizona Potholes. Here, we encounter the north face of the Laguna Mtns., where masses of black schist and coarse, granitic gneiss rise steeply for 250 feet above the Colorado River. Mittry Lake rests behind the dam. Looking east, you'll see a small, island dike of volcanic rhyolite rising from the waters of this small, placid reservoir. The geology of the region is extremely diverse. For several years, I scrambled all over the local terrain finding small amounts of placer at several localities. Both sides of the pink rhyolite seemed, at one time, to be shedding gold. That might provide some insight into the golden source. Small, discrete deposits of placer extend even out onto the lake's pink island. It's possible that indigenous Colorado River Indian tribes learned of gold’s value through the influx of white and Hispanic miners. It's a cinch miners from south of the border knew gold had value as did the gringos just entering the country. Gold causes an infectious disease. As diverse peoples mingle, one group passes the fever on to others. Eons before people arrived, in all likelihood, ancient lodes had spawned these placer deposits. Free gold was discovered in pediments as well as in the region's canyons, ravines, and smaller drywashes. Similar geology had also produced placer in the California Potholes rising from the Colorado River’s northern banks. These placers were extensively-mined as well. Channels cutting through uplifted granite rocks had carried gold down into local canyon systems. Over time, remants of these old channels had become elevated by erosion. They came to rest atop granite, rhyolite, gneiss, and schist bedrock. While I never amassed much gold from the Arizona and California Potholes, I did locate some beautiful nuggets up to 12 pennyweights in size. Drywashing was my preferred method of extraction. Driving south on a gravel road running parallel with the Gila Gravity Canal, you will trace the west side of the Laguna Mountains. Motoring on for a few miles, you'll eventually find yourself at the Gila River floodplain. A short jaunt eastward lands you at the Rte. 95 intersection. Having now hit the hard-road, you drive south crossing beyond a relatively-narrow strip of irrigated cropland. The Gila Mountain's northerly flank sticks out like a sore thumb rising up from the river-bottom. Turning off Rte 95 and driving east on another gravel road for a few miles places you near the old ghost town of Gila City. If you're looking for more recreational prospecting opportunities, here's another historic goldfield area for you to explore. To the west of Yuma are the Cargo Muchacho Mountains. Regional washes in the vicinity of the old ghost town of Tumco and the American Girl Mine continue to produce small amounts of placer gold. In a more northerly direction, but in between the aforementioned districts is Picacho Peak, another famous gold region where considerable mining occurred in recent years. Large-scale operations pretty much eradicated any sign of the old placer diggings which were prominent back in the early 1980s. Yuma's regional mining districts offer several playgrounds for the novice gold-mining aficionado. Researching a bit deeper discloses several other gold and silver districts within this sector of Arizona's SW desert. Unfortunately, many of these promising mineralized provinces sit on Military Proving Grounds, within Game Refuges, or on Colorado River Indian reservation land. Although you're rarely, if ever, assured of finding gold, your chances are still pretty fair in the old wild west. It's always advisable to research the claim status of lands in districts that are open to mineral entry. When you see old mine workings or lots of claim markers, there's a good chance the land is under claim. Oftimes, however, claim markers will remain long after claimants from yesteryear allowed their claims to lapse The Yuma county B.L.M. office is the place to find claim status as well as information on lands open to mineral entry in Arizona. One possible shortcut which might help avoid the run around connected with finding a place to work recreationally is to join a gold-mining club with valid claims. Fortunately, I had the run of the Laguna Mtns. This gave me ample room in which to prospect to my heart’s content. Thanks for checking out our digs. Gold of Eldorado 1-14-13
