Description: Book is being sold by the author, Carolyn Martin. I have published three books about mass-produced metal horse figurines from the early-to-mid-1900s. I am very proud of this third book displaying the works of Gladys Brown Edwards. It represents years of research and experience in the metal horse field and in book production. Gladys Brown Edwards' Equine Works in Metal--(copyright 2008, this book will never be "out-of-date;" since auction and antique mall prices fluctuate radically, the values that are given for each piece are best used as an indicator of quality and rarity of the model.) This book includes more than 200 examples of her remarkable artistic talent, molded in plated gray metal and produced by the Ray E. Dodge Factory or Metal Corp. of America, most from the 1930s through the 1960s. These pieces are still available in antique shops and on eBay often for very reasonable prices, though as GBE's work is becoming better and better known values will almost certainly go up. Gladys Brown Edwards (1908-1989) wrote authoritative books on horse conformation that are still used for reference by modern horse scholars. This expertise shows clearly in her art, both painting and sculpture. She sculpted the original models for the Ray E. Dodge Factory, who produced her work in plated metal as trophies, paper weights, figurines, bookends, etc., from 1934 until approximately 1960. While traveling all over the United States photographing metal horses for her first two books, Metal Horse Collections (2001) and Metal Horse Figurines (2004), Carolyn Martin was able to gather together an extensive set of photographs of the works of Gladys Brown Edwards. This book includes those photographs, many that are not included in either of Carolyn’s first two books, plus a wealth of information about this superior equine artist. A sampling of GBE dog creations and a few misc. designs are also included. While rarity and value estimates are suggested, the main focus of this book is to entertain the reader with the beautiful artwork of Gladys Brown Edwards, that is her models that were mass-produced, not her individual bronzes. This book has 152 pages of beautiful photographs. It is printed in black and white...color would be much more expensive and is simply not necessary since all of the figurines were finished in bronze, silver or gold (brass) plating. This book is available ONLY from the author--You will NOT find it in bookstores or on Amazon. The author's two earlier books were also sold on eBay and are now sold out: METAL HORSE COLLECTIONS and METAL HORSE FIGURINES. All three books are in 8 1/2" x 11" format with soft cover and "perfect" binding. Your satisfaction is 100% guaranteed or purchase price will be cheerfully refunded! PLEASE!!!
