Gilmour Road Frameset 52cm

Description: Another unique offering from The Vintage Vault at Golden Velo, we have for sale this Gilmour road frameset. This bike catches my eye every time I walk through the shop (if it was my size it would be in my garage). The bike has all the classic Italian design elements, dressed in a beautiful seafoam sparkle with a thunderbird adorning the head tube. HistoryAndy Gilmour is a Scottish born frame builder from Tucson, Arizona got his start building frames in 1974. His mark on history comes from the early mountain bike days. He would modify old steel Schwinns into what he called “Cycle Trucks” (the term mountain bike had not been coined yet). He remains modest about his role in the early mountain bike design, but many argue he may have beaten the Marin boys to the creation of the MTB. When he was asked about the MTB in an interview he said this, "No one invented the mountain bike. The Italian army was off-roading at the turn of the century". He estimates that there are around 5,000 frames he has built over the years.
