The singers of the Ninth Symphony include Camilla Tilling, a world-renowned Swedish soprano with a "beautiful voice and unwavering musicality" and highly praised at famous opera houses in the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom. Kelly O'Connor is a mezzo-soprano who performs a wide range of repertoire, from Beethoven to John Adams (he wrote "The Gospel According to Another Mary" for O'Connor), and Golijov's "Ainamadar", with outstanding stability and presence. Isah Savage is an American tenor with a rare balance of delicate and powerful voice, who attracted worldwide attention after winning the Wagner International Competition in Seattle in 2014. The bass-baritone, Ryan McKinney, from the United States, also appeared at Bayreuth, and his deep reading of the characters and lyrics evokes sympathy for them. The cover art is an abstract painting by Mo Willems, who is also a children's book author. Willems was moved by a Beethoven concert one night, and spent a year listening to and studying each piece over and over again, to experience the changes in Beethoven's style and technique. Based on that, he created nine panels. Each panel is made up of parts that represent each movement, and the parts represent the length of the movement. Looking at Willems' panels, you feel as if you are looking into Beethoven's mind through Willems' and Noseda's performances.
