Description: Please visit our eBay store for a complete list of in-stock Civil War relics organized by recovery location. We are working as partners in conjunction with Gettysburg Relics to offer some very nice American Civil War relics for sale. The owner of Gettysburg Relics was the proprietor of Artifact at 777 on Cemetery Hill in Gettysburg for a number of years, and we are now selling on eBay. Please note that it has come to our attention that a number of other sellers are copying our titles, (in most cases word for word) after we first listed relics from this particular Rosensteel collection grouping, as well as others, and we suspect that their relics are likely not from the same collection. Items from this specific collection will have proper corresponding documentation accompanying them. The Rosensteel collection bullets are not recent recoveries, and their recovery pre-dates the 1960s. The park still owns the majority of the relics once owned by the Rosensteel Family. THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA ~ RECOVERED AT THE TOP OF DEVIL'S DEN ~ IN THE AREA OF SMITH'S US BATTERY AND THE 124th NEW YORK MONUMENT ~ FROM THE ROSENSTEEL FAMILY COLLECTION OF GETTYSBURG ~a nice dropped .58 caliber (this one does actually register at .58 on calipers) 3-ring rifle bullet with a seam on the side and one flat compressed area on one area, was recovered over 60 years ago from 'the Top of Devil's Den' (also known as Houck's Ridge), in the area of Smith's Battery and the 124th New York Infantry Monument. This artifact was a part of the collection of Iva Rosensteel-Rider (Born in 1887 and died in 1964), daughter of George Daniel Rosensteel, a former Straban township resident and Gettysburg Butcher living on Baltimore Street. Iva was the sister of George Rosensteel (founder of the Gettysburg National Museum and the famous Electric Map) so the provenance could not be better. This is the first time that this artifact is being offered for public sale and I feel very privileged in the opportunity to offer it. The Rosensteels were, of course, the most famous artifact collecting family in Gettysburg and the bulk of the relics on display at today's Gettysburg National Park Visitor Center come from the Rosensteels. A provenance letter will be provided with this relic. We include as much documentation with the relics as we possess. This includes copies of tags if there are original identification tags or maps, as well as a signed letter of provenance with the specific recovery information. All of the collections that we are offering for sale are guaranteed to be authentic, and are either older recoveries, found before the 1960s when it was still legal to metal detect battlefields, or were recovered on private property with permission. Land on Battlefields that is now Federally owned, or owned by the Trust, was acquired after the relics were recovered. We will not buy or sell any items that were recovered illegally, nor will we sell any items that we suspect were recovered illegally. Thank you for viewing!
