Description: Germany: Patriotic Medal of the Weltkrieg 1914. Very prophetic silvered bronze patriotic medal with the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse on the obverse. The designer/engraver was Bernhard H. Mayer, of Pforzheim, Germany. The firm of Mayer, with his son Rudolf, became one of the premier medalists in Germany, making medals for European and South American countries. In 1936, Mayer was appointed to make the bronze, silver and gold medals for the Berlin Summer Olympics. This medal is in near extremely fine condition, dark toned and on an old ribbon of the Imperial German colors.
