Description: An old handmade and painted German papier-mâché beer figure of a bald man drinking that has his beer stein ready to toast you. The hand painted papier-mâché figure with glasses, bow tie, and gray beer stein. He has a stitched pale blue felt coat and a darker blue apron. The coat has small brass buttons. The base of the figure has a copper wire spring like affair. There is a wire for the arm with the beer stein. He has a cardboard base with feet sticking out from the apron. There is a stamped ink mark on the base that I’m unable to make out. MEASUREMENTS 5 7/8” (14.9 cm) tall x 3” (7.6 cm) wide x 4” (10.2 cm) deep. Weighs 3.0 oz (85 g) CONDITION There is wear to the paint on the painted surfaces. The jacket is faded and the brass buttons are slightly tarnished. There are a few soiled spots on the jacket back. The apron is well worn with holes where the copper sprint has rubbed against the fabric and is now exposed. It’s old and was played with. His feet are bent, but he will still stand up if you position him carefully. (Sort of like the real thing, lol) This could have been a candy container but I didn’t try to open anything up because of the fragility of the toy. It has a great aged and comical appearance and would look great with other antique toys.
