Description: The German Iron Cross is the most recognized military medal in the world. This is a faithful replica of the Prussian / German Imperial Iron Cross Second Class, 1870 Franco-Prussian War version. This is a two-sided medal. The front of the medal has the Prussian crown on the upper arm and the year 1970 on the lower arm. There is a "W" for Kaiser Wilhelm in the center. The German Empire was declared in 1871 after the defeat of France. The reverse has the date 1813 on the lower arm - this was the year the Iron Cross was established. In the center there are three oak leaves. The upper arm includes the Prussian crown with the initials "FW" - Friedrich Wilhelm - just below. The detail and finish on this medal are both excellent. This medal is silver-plated, not "silver-painted." Included is a full 6-inch length of full-size (30 mm width) post-war ribbon.
