Description: Fairly hard to find named (partly - see notes below) Bundeswehr uniform jacket and cap of a German WWII Eastern Front STUG Assault Tank Ace Knight’s Cross holder - Major Johann Straub. Included in listing: 1 x Nice old and lightly used German Bundeswehr Heer uniform jacket of a WWII Knight’s Cross veteran (size unknown) with 1957 version ribbon bar with Knight's Cross, German Cross in Gold, Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Classes, Wound Badge in Silver, General Assault Badge (as awarded to assault tank crews), Winter Battle in the East Medal, and 4-Year Service Medal sewn on above the left breast pocket as was sometimes done. Aslo, notice the distinctive Branch Insignia and braided silver colored shoulder cord around the left sleeve indicating his assignment as an officer to a General Staff in Bundeswehr Region V (5) (see shoulder patch). 1 x Bundeswehr Heer (Army) Field Grade Officer Cap - Old and well worn with stains and wear. It has “Major Straub” written on worn and faded strip inside cap as seen in pictures. NOTE 1: Johann Straub was an army Lieutenant who fought on the Eastern Front against the Soviets/Russians during WWII. He served as a Platoon Commander in the 7th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He scored 18 confirmed tank kills (see picture with 18 white rings around tank’s gun barrel (no picture included in auction)). He was awarded the Knight’s Cross and German Cross in Gold for his actions in combat. After WWII he joined the newly formed Bundeswehr and ended his military career as a Major of the Reserve in 1961. He passed away in 1996. NOTE 2: The jacket and cap were bought separately but from the same seller at the same time via auction. The jacket has no name or size markings. The cap has his name. The jacket is consistent with Major Straub’s military profile at the end of his career showing the right awards, rank, branch, etc. The cap is well used and was probably an early Bundeswehr used piece whereas the jacket is only lightly used and is probably from his later service time in the reserves. No other items included - only what is shown in pictures. No bad symbols - Approved by German government for public wear since 1957! Items are sold as is. These are used items with signs of wear. Please see all pictures and ask all questions before bidding. Items come from a smoke and pet free home. THAT BEING SAID ITEMS ARE OLD AND MIGHT HAVE SOME SLIGHT SMELL! Condition is "Used".
