He is quoted in Richard Tregaskis ''Guadalcanal Diary'' (1943). In 1942 he became a naval aviator. Peachy celebrated life, including being born on July 4th, being married on Halloween, and passing away on New Year's Eve. How she loved sparklers and fireworks on July 4th! She came into and left this world with fireworks. Born in 1921, she was the daughter of John Lowry and Mildred Hill Lowry. She attended Miss Porter's School, Farmington, CT and Finch Junior College, New York, NY. After marrying Lt. Paul Franklin Kalat in 1942 and living on naval bases during the war, they settled in his hometown of Worcester, MA. She was president of the Junior League in Worcester and regional director. Peachy moved with her family to Providence, RI where her interests included being president of the Providence County Garden Club and president of the Rhode Island Senior Women's Golf Association. Her last move was to Vero Beach, FL when her husband retired. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, Vero Beach Chapter and the Junior League of Vero Beach. Her marriage to her devoted husband lasted 62 years until his death in 2005. She spent most of her summersin Osterville, MA. Former member of Wianno Club in Osterville and The Beach Club in Centerville. Peachy's loved politics. Nationally, she was on the Executive Committee of the National Federation of Republican Women in the 1980s. State- wide she was president of the Rhode Island Federation of Republican Women as well as treasurer of the Rhode Island Republican Party.
