"George Bernard Shaw was an Irish playwright, socialist, and a co-founder of the London School of Economics. Although his first profitable writing was music and literary criticism, in which capacity he wrote many highly articulate pieces of journalism, his main talent was for drama. Over the course of his life he wrote more than 60 plays. Nearly all his plays address prevailing social problems, but each also includes a vein of comedy that makes their stark themes more palatable. In these works Shaw examined education, marriage, religion, government, health care, and class privilege." In this essay, Shaw extols the visiting of churches as an antidote to temptations of drink and drugs. This is a very unique book for sale. In fact, as far as I can tell, it's the only one of it's kind in existence. In a failed attempt to track down a precise publication date, I found mystifyingly little information about this volume at all. It's bizarre, frankly. I received this book in a box with nine others, all designed in the same unique style. The year "1912" is inscribed in ink on one of the books, so I'll trust that this former owner is more knowledgeable on the subject than me. Perhaps Shrewsbury published the set for some type of event or function, and given as a gift to select attendees. Whatever the case, this mysterious volume of work of is exceedingly scarce. The book itself is in near fine condition. Clean bright pages bereft of inscription, firm binding, tight square boards, etc. Very mild shelfwear.
