The book is a facsimile of the original 1898 collection. The original edition was not published in book form; it was done as a series of portraits which were etched or engraved on separate sheets of paper. Biographical sketches were printed on separate sheets of cream-colored paper. The portraits and sketches were then gathered and inserted in a box-type binding know as a solander box or case. Every effort has been made to keep the flavor of the original while putting this into a book form. Arranged in order of their rank, with their military records of the Confederate Army and previous records in the Unite States Army, of all those who graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point or were appointed from civil life, the book remains a highly sought reference of high quality. THIS BOOK IS IN FINE CONDITION This antique book is in pristine condition. It comes in the original, protective book box. Handsomely bound in navy blue covers with bright, gold lettering and the image of Confederate general officer rank on the cover and spine, the exterior sharp, bright and clean. The book is as nice as the day it was published. It has no wear, bumping or rubbing. The interior is clean and the pages are in excellent, bright white, condition. There isn’t a mark in the book. It is filled with excellent, portrait illustrations and contains an alphabetical list of the general officers contained in the book. The binding is solid throughout. The book comes in a protective book box that has light wear and fading (see photo #3), but remain solid and has done it's job to protect the book.
