Description: I have for sale a medal for the New York City unveiling of the statue for General Marquis De Lafayette. Lafayette was a French born General who fought on behalf of the Americans during the American revolution. The medal is made of white metal, it is 1 1/4 inch in diameter and in uncirculated condition with one tiny rim nick, see photos. The obverse shows the bust of Lafayette and reads GENERAL LAFAYETTE. The reverse reads DEFENDER OF AMERICAN AND - FRENCH - LIBERTY, - BORN 1757 DIED 1834 - STATUE IN - NEW YORK - UNVEILED - SEPT. 6, 1876 - CENTENNIAL.
