Description: Listed for auction is a stunning autographed framed display which contain the authenticated autographs of Confederate commander general Robert E. Lee [1807 1970] and Union Commander general Ulysses S. Grant [1822 1885]. The display is centered around two great colorized images of the generals in uniform. These are quality photographs which measure 8.00 x 10.00 inches, the original images were taken by Matthew Brady. Mounted below each of the general's photographs are their autographs. The autograph of Robert E. Lee is signed ''R. Lee genl'' in fountain pen on a page, with trivial toning otherwise in fine condition. The autograph Ulysses S. Grant is signed ''Respectfully U.S. Grant'' in fountain pen on a page, in fine condition. The autographs are both bold, display wonderfully, authenticated by JSA Authentication and will be accompanied with the above Letters of Authenticity. Mounted below are three professionally engrave plagues, two are biographical plaques of [Lee & Grant] along with the following, American Civil War April 12, 1861 - May 26, 1865. The American Civil War was fought between the United States Union Army and the Confederate States of America Army after succession of southern states. After decades of political controversy over slavery were brought to a head when Abraham Lincoln, who opposed slavery's expansion, won the 1860 U.S. presidential election. The war's first shot was fired when the Confederacy bombarded Fort Sumter on April 12, 1861. The American Civil War would consist of over 10,500 engagements, 50 major battles, over 23 states and resulted in a total of over 650,000 Union and Confederate casualties. The display has been professionally triple matted in a grey linen outer matte which has been accented with a green and a blue inner matte. The display has been completed in a quality ornate gold wood frame to the dimensions of 27.00 x 23.00 inches. The display is stunning, completed in all quality materials, the autographs are authenticated, and the display represented the two most prominent field commander of the American Civil War, along with a future American president.
