Description: The L-188 Electra is a turboprop airliner manufactured by the Lockheed Corporation. The Electra first flew in 1957. It was the first large turboprop airliner built in the United States. With its unique high power-to weight ratio, Allison 501-D13 engines with huge propellers, very short wings, large Fowler flaps which significantly increased effective wing area when deployed, the Electra had aircraft performance capabilities unmatched by many jet aircraft. Many are still in use today as freighters and in firefighting operations. Braniff Airways, Inc., operated as Braniff International Airways from 1948 to 1965. It then operated as Braniff International from 1965 until the airline's closure. Braniff was an American airline that flew air carrier operations from 1928 to 1982. In 1983, a group of former Braniff pilots, flight attendants, mechanics and other personnel started Sun Country Airlines (I flew one of their first flights to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico). The airline continues to operate today out of the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP). This aircraft (N9709C) was originally delivered to Braniff on 01 September 1960. It flew with Braniff until March of 1969 when it was sold to another carrier. It then went through ten more owners, ending up with Mandala Airlines in January of 1980 with registration PK-RLE. It provided service with Mandala until it was ultimately taken out of service and scrapped (how very sad). This Gemini 1:200 scale diecast reproduction of the Braniff International Airways Electra is an very rare, highly detailed and out of production model. It comes with:Razor sharp Braniff International Airways graphics of the eraRotating propellersDetailed landing gear with rolling rubber tiresPolished chrome lower fuselage and wing accentsCan be shown on the included display stand. The model is listed as old stock, but is NEW and has never been out of the box. All sales are final. Shipping to the USA only. NOTE: This Gemini Braniff L-188 Electra is a highly collectible and a very rare model, and is the only one available. It will be an excellent addition to any Braniff collector, any L-188 Electra collector or any aviation enthusiast's collection. NOTE: The last two photographs in the series are of actual Braniff Electras.
