From the Library of The Detection Fiction Club with their bookplate which is a terrific vintage looking affair. The bookplate (3 by 4 inches) was created by the artist DIZ depicts a black & white cross-hatched drawing showing a library of books. On one column of the bookshelves is a shadow of a mysterious person outlined against the books. In the foreground is a cane propped against a circular table upon which a deerstalker cap and a magnifying glass. The bookplate bears the lettering: EX LIBRIS - THE DETECTION CLUB. Founded in London in 1930, The Detection Club is the oldest and most prestigious group of mystery and detection writers. The founding members were a who’s who of the Golden Age of British Mystery and Detective Fiction including Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, G.K. Chesterton, G.D.H. Cole & Margaret Cole, Freeman Wills Crofts, Arthur Morrison, John Rhode, Jessie Rickard, Baroness Emma Orczy, R. Austin Freeman, E.C. Bentley, H.C. Bailey. Anthony Berkeley and many others. The early members of the club all donated copies of their books to the club library for the other members to read.
