GARY COOPER - DOCUMENT SIGNED 10/07/1952 - HFSID 277683 GARY COOPER He signs a typed letter authorizing stunt man Slim Talbot - his double in many hit movies - to drive Cooper's Cadillac to Canada. Typed Letter signed: "Gary Cooper", 1 page, 7x10½. Beverly Hills, California, 1952 October 7. On personal letterhead "to whom it may concern." In full: "It is with my knowledge and consent that Slim Talbot is driving to Canada my 1952 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, engine #5262-08898, license # 1T46986." GARY COOPER won two Oscars as Best Actor, in the title role in Sergeant York (1942) and as Marshal Will Kane in High Noon (1952). He was also nominated for the role of Longfellow Deeds in Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, Lou Gehrig in The Pride of the Yankees and Robert Jordan in For Whom the Bell Tolls. Cooper was awarded a Special Academy Award in 1961 "For his many memorable screen performances and the international recognition he, as an individual, has gained for the motion picture industry." Cooper was too ill to accept the Oscar in person and his close friend, a tearful Jimmy Stewart, accepted it in his name. A month later, Cooper died of cancer at the age of 60. Stunt man SLIM TALBOT (1895-1973), performed stunts for Cooper in many films, from Lives of a Bengal Lancer (1935) to The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962). His stand-in roles for Cooper included Mr. Deeds and High Noon. Light folds, not at signature. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
