Plants absorb nutrients more efficiently if the soil is of the proper PH level. Garden Lime is a natural source of magnesium and calcium. This product consists of 93% calcium carbonate, 4% magnesium carbonate. How much Garden Lime you add to your mix depends upon how acid the mix is to start with. Before adding any Garden Lime growers usually get a potful-sized sample of their mix thoroughly moist and test the PH often using a PH meter. For African violets and their cousins add Garden Lime if the PH is 7 or higher. This group of plants prefers a mix with a PH between 6.5 and 6.8. This Garden Lime is pulverized and is very flour like in consistency. It is easy to incorporate into your soil. Many houseplant enthusiasts find it sufficient to add 1 or 2 Tablespoons of Garden Lime per gallon of their potting mix.
