Description: [French Pioneer Aviation] c.1909-14 Scrapbook Containing 60 Original Postcards, Newspaper Cuttings & Ephemera An interesting original scrapbook, the original owner has pasted in 60 black and white postcards, all of pioneer aviators of the day, not only in flight but also some nice portraits or ground images - Hauvette-Michelin, Dubonnet, Harding, Latham, Curtiss, Wilbur Wright, Kimmerling, Jane Herveu, Hanriot, Legagneux, Molon. There are views of the wreckage of planes belonging to Legagneux and Metrot, and many come from popular French aviation postcard series of the day - “Histoire de L’Aviation”, “Lyon Aviation”, “Grand Semaine D’Aviation de Lyon” and “École National D’Aviation”. The owner has also pasted in a number of contemporary newspaper and magazine cuttings concerning aviators of the day - one is a full page decoratively illustrated showing Pégoud and his remarkable feat of flying upside down. There is also a juvenile ink drawing (signed by the owner) of Hubert Latham’s machine. Approx. 150x190mm., binding loose, occasional spotting and some annotations by the owner throughout. A very nice item.
