Description: FRENCH ORNATE BRONZE CHERUB/PUTTI + QUILTED RUFFLED SHADEPEG KEROSENE OIL LAMP This listing is for the complete fully functional peg lamp which is in excellent condition. The bronzed tripodal base is detailed and in excellent condition with negligible signs of wear or use to the original finish . All components are crack, break and repair free. As with most items this age it is not perfect, the most notable anomaly being that it was slightly out of plumb. How the base sits or leans is of no consequence unless it impacts the vertical of the chimney as did this one.In order to rectify this I added the notched brass component below the candle cup. Although this is an addition it is age appropriate. It can be removed but I do not recommend doing so.The clear, moulded, spiral fount is in very good to excellent condition. It is crack, chip and hairline free while showing negligible, if any, signs of wear/use. The surface has a good even gloss. The collar is in excellent condition with no splits, cracks or dents. The original Kosmos burner is in excellent condition. All chimney prongs are present and damage free and the wick winder moves freely. Although this is an 8’’’ burner, due to the height of the lamp and dimensions of the shade, I have bent the prongs to firmly hold a 6’’’ chimney. In my opinion any chimney taller than this is out of proportion. The early unused 1900’s Sun Brand chimney is immaculate.The shade holder is simply a flat lipped piece of brass which I adapted to fit over the burner. I did not want a regular gallery as I wanted to leave as much of the shade exposed as possible. This burner will take a gallery if this is your preference.The frilly French quilted shade, which is literally the crowning glory, is an intense, clean & strong yellow. It is both immaculate and striking.To be honest yellow would have to be close to my least favourite colour but my love of rare and unusual glass drew me to this. It is eye catching under normal light but the magic happens under black light.When the black light is less intense the shade glows coral and green. Increase the proximity/intensity of the light and hot pink is added to the mix When I purchased this shade I was told it was Alexandrite. I have done some research, as I am no expert, and question whether it may actually be Manganese glass. Either way under black light it is difficult to look away.
