Margaret Wilson, who lived from 1882--1973, was an American novelist who was awarded the PULITZER PRIZE in 1924. Born in Iowa, she grew up in a farm family and attended the University of Chicago, where she earned degrees in 1903-04. After completing her education, she became a missionary in the service of the United Presbyterian Church and was assigned to India where she worked at a girls' school and at a hospital. Later she taught school. In 1923, she married George Turner, a Scotsman she had met in India, and the couple resided in England. She became a tutor at Brasenose College, OXFORD. "The Able McLaughlins" is a story of a Scottish community in Iowa in the 1860s. Her own childhood provided her with insights into the ways of Scottish immigrants. Her family was "poor but strong and loving." 223 pages---a BEAUTIFUL book! I offer Combined shipping.
