Description: Francisco de Goya Lucientes (Spain, 1746-1828) Etching Gazette des Beaux-Arts Imp. Delatre Paris. Actual etching portion measures approximately 3.25" x 4". Frame opening is a little under 5" x 7" and total frame is about 9.5" x 11.5". Just below the frame opening, there is handwriting in pencil "G-12-9". I left the framing as it was when I acquired the piece, but it is not well done. The front is very thin & flexible plexiglass, and the back has a foam piece over the print which is taped in place with clear packing tape. According to my research, this is a posthumous etching. Imp. Delatre is the publisher, and the work was published in the Gazette des Beaux. I've seen a few different titles for the work, but it seems to most commonly be simply called "The Prisoner". The work is believed to be a social statement about the punishment being as barbarous as the crime. Condition appears to be good for age, with possibly some slight warping to the paper, which should easily resolve with a more solid & professional framing job. Please view photos for best assessment.
