Francis McCarthy (1923-2005) 20th Century Philadelphia/Barnes Foundation Modernist best known for figures, genre paintings, and art education. Original signed watercolor painting on paper Created in 1956 Site: 9.5"x 13.25" Frame: 18.5"x 22.25" Signed and dated lower right--see photos Looks very good, in "as found" original condition, not examined out of the frame, matte has minor age tone, minor foxing, frame has minor wear, glass should be removed before shipping-- please look at photos carefully. Great looking composition by Francis McCarthy! This paintings depicts a mid 20th century view of the River Liffey in Dublin, Ireland. The green dome of The Custom House can be seen from distance. This is a fine example of McCarthy's watercolor paintings in great condition for its age and with a fantastic subject. My price of $499 is extremely reasonable and far below what one would be expected to pay for it in a gallery or at auction. Please check out the other artwork in our store on ebay. We regularly feature newly acquired artwork, from antique and vintage to contemporary and modern. Select the "See other items" tab on our page. He began art lessons at the unusually young age of 3 at the Friends Neighborhood Guild and his talent was constantly nurtured there and at home. In the 40's Albert Barnes met Francis at the Guild and understood his gifts. Barnes became his encouraging patron, then McCarthy studied at the Philadelphia College of Art, Barnes Foundation, Grand Chaumiere (Paris, France), and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. McCarthy was an instructor of adults and children at the Fleisher Art Memorial for fifty-one years from 1953 onward and continued to teach drawing and painting in Fleisher's evening program until his health began to fail just prior to the start of the Fall 2004 semester. His work is in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the National Gallery in Washington DC, the Barnes Foundation, and other museums and private collections in America and Europe. McCarthy died in 2005. 100% Guaranteed to be as described. Ask all questions beforehand. Please contact us before purchasing if you have any questions. All Sales are Final.
