Description: France ca. 1750: A Jewish Sacrifice in the Desert, Fine Engraving This large, fascinating engraved print appears to date from a mid eighteenth century history of the Jews, and deals with Jewish life in Biblical times. It illustrates a passage from the Old Testament (Leviticus, chapter IV) having to do with the purification of lepers. We see a priest sacrificing a bird, presumably outside the Tabernacle. In the background, a mountain (Mount Zion?) and the tents of a nomadic people, wandering in the desert after fleeing Egypt. Dimensions of the sheet are about 15.75 inches by 9.75 inches. This is 250+ years old handmade paper of high quality. Condition is basically very good, with a paper toning and a little creasing lower right. For lovers of fine old prints, of Bible history, and of Jewish history. Priced very moderately. Shipping within the U.S. will be $9. And to see what else I have for sale, please click here.
