Description: This outstanding antique repose (meaningraised) metal icon shows an Eastern Orthodox saint but I have been unable todecipher the language giving the saint’s name. It is not Russian, Bulgarian,Romanian, or Greek and may be Coptic. The age of the piece is clearly evidencedby the patina and wear on the metal surface. Surrounding the image is anelaborately carved wooden frame, at the bottom of which is the saint’sname. The icon measures 3 ½ inches widex 4 ½ inches in height, including the frame.
