A very good looking and well-made set of four highly decorative chairs. They were sold to me as William Morris made for Liberty’s London. They are clearly made by a master craftsman, just looking at the minute carved round balls of timber around the edges of the back rest and the quality of the inlay inside the back rest. Perhaps they were simply upholstered with a Liberty fabric and not retailed by Liberty’s, either way they are a cracking set of chairs. They have been extensively restored over the years, there are old repairs, new repairs, metal plates and brackets have been fitted here and there, I can see a new piece of timber under one seat pad and so on. We have cleaned waxed and polished them, the frames have been checked glued and clamped as required. The upholstery is in good order, both carver chairs have cold sprung bases which has dropped a little but are still in good working order.
