Description: Rare or Scarce : Set of Four 7.5" Bowls by Digoin, probably 1890's or 1930's based on design but could find no info on these etchings, by Royce. Called a "Talking Plate". Gorgeous Old French Faience ironstone transferware. A bit fragile, but beautifully preserved details on Fable Storybook scenes are sooo Victorian gothic, Look At That Rat.... ! The Bowls have Very clear dark brown print Transfers of scenes from a French Children's Book series by Jean de La Fontaine, with illustrations by Royce. Charming french quotes from the books, there were 12 in the original series. Some vintage browning, it appears they are early ironstone, antique from the 1930's or earlier, pre War. Please see photos!! Some minor glaze crazing so these are decor. No cracks. One tiny chip. And too rare to justify using them, am I right? Arrives handwashed and very well packed for Antique delicate.
