Here is a very rare and large segment with actual skin impressions from an Edmontosaurus, a Hadrosaur dinosaur from the Cretaceous, 74 to 66 million years ago, the last age of the Dinosaurs. It is from the Hell Creek Formation near Newell, South Dakota. It is in remarkable condition (photos), measuring about 4.6 inches and weighing 5.65 oz. There is a tiny hairline crack that only extends a small way through the piece, so you will be fine as long as it is not handled roughly. This piece is from the tail of the Edmontosaurus. It is one single piece, not several pieces glued together. The rare skin impressions are much easier to see in nice sunlight. Pieces as nice as this don't come along every day. There are 2 photos with arrows pointing to some of the skin. Most of the skin shows as round spots or oval, except one large one that is shaped like a horseshoe. The yellow arrow points to the "horseshoe" one, the other arrows point to regular skin. Photo 3 has arrows, photo 4 is the same photo with no arrows. Photo 5 has arrows, photo 6 is the same photo with no arrows. So you can see more clearly where the skin is. The Hadrosaurs are also known as duck-billed dinosaurs, because of the shape of their heads. They were herbivores. The Edmontosaurus is the most famous of the hadrosaurs.
