FORTUNATE SON STORY:"Fortunate Son" is a protest song by the American rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival released on their fourth studio album, Willy and the Poor Boys, in November 1969. "Fortunate Son" (1969) was the only popular antiwar song of the 1960s to observe that the sons of the working class were more likely to be drafted than the sons of the privileged. It soon became an anti-war movement anthem and an expressive symbol of the counterculture's opposition to U.S. military involvement in the Vietnam War and solidarity with the soldiers fighting it. "Fortunate Son" is not an anti-military song. It supports the men who served and is against the children of privilege who evaded the draft. The song has been featured extensively in pop culture depictions of the Vietnam War and the anti-war movement.
