At one time the letter was glued to a paper backing with paper and glue residue on verso. Previous owner has stamped their name on the paper residue "K. J. Turner". Good condition.This letter was written by Lieutenant-General Forbes Macbean (1725-1800), a British Army officer of the Royal Artillery. Macbean began his career in the Royal Military Academy as a cadet matross, was present at the Battle of Fontenoy, the Battle of Minden during the Seven Years War, in Portugal, where he reached the rank of Inspector-General of the Portuguese Artillery, commanded a company of artillery in Canada in 1769-73, and again in Canada during the years 1778-79, commanding the Royal Artillery (History of the Royal Regiment of Artillery, 1872). The letter written by Forbes Macbean to "his lordship" reads: "Case a war should break out wherein any British Troops are Employed I may not be sufferd[sic] to remain in idleness and oblivion in America, as it would make me extremely happy to be Employed in the Field. I have the honor of professing myself on all occasions. My Lord. Your Lordp. much obliged a Devoted Humble Servt. Forbes Macbean. Gravesend April 14 1769." Good condition / None.
