THE PERFECT BALANCE FOR HIGH DYNAMICOver recent years, many innovations have appeared in the materials field: by combining traditional natural materials with modern composites, a whole new genre of hybrid materials has emerged.Just as our ‘sandwich’ technology, perfectly mastered with our ‘K2’ and ‘W’ cones, is the optimal combination of rigidity/weight/damping, flax was the engineers’ obvious choice for the sandwich core. The use of an ecotextile, combined with composite technologies, provides an innovative solution for a sandwich structure: we use a very high-quality flax –French flax, considered the best in the world– and place it between two layers of glass fibre. Manufactured in our workshops in France, the Flax cone is characterised by its very natural sound without colouration, a rich reproduction in the midrange and clear bass strokes. From the Home to the Car Audio collection, it features in many of Focal's flagship products with our Flax Evo line comprising kits with 2 and 3-way component kits, a coaxial kit, and subwoofers.In addition to aluminium baskets, the TAM tweeter –another Focal exclusive technology developed and manufactured in our workshops– completes the range and sets itself apart through its qualities in terms of 'wide-angle’ diffusion, a massive advantage for in-car installations. FOCAL TECHNOLOGIES In addition to the Flax cone, this line incorporates the latest Focal technologies: the TAM Aluminium/Magnesium tweeter and the TMD surround featured on the tweeter, as well as all the speaker drivers for a refined yet powerful acoustic rendering. A COMPLETE LINE Flax Evo includes a 2-way coaxial kit, four 2-way component kits, one 3-way component kit and four subwoofers. These kits can handle high-performance amplification and can be combined with any product from the Focal electronics range. Technologies THE FLAX CONE, EXPRESSIVE AND NATURAL This flax cone has been exclusively made in France by Focal since 2013. With its original design, it is 100% geared towards acoustic performance. This sandwich cone is formed of a flax fibre core placed between two thin sheets of glass fibre. Flax is a fibre with the unique ability to reproduce a very natural sound without colouration, with a rich reproduction in the midrange and clear bass strokes. Its lightness offers great dynamics, while its rigidity sustains the bass and provides good damping to deliver a faithful listening experience. Flax fibre is twice as light as glass fibre as it is hollow. Its very low elasticity makes it ideal for increasing the flexural rigidity module of a sandwich structure. THE TAM TWEETER Made in France in the Focal workshops, the TAM tweeter stands out for its many qualities, particularly in terms of wide-angle diffusion, beneficial for in-car environments characterised by “off-axis” listening. Comprising a cone that is an aluminium/magnesium ‘M’-profile inverted dome, this tweeter unites an impressive array of cutting-edge Focal technologies to reproduce a faultless harmonic balance and highly-detailed treble. THE TMD SURROUND A patented Focal technology, the TMD surround makes an appearance on all speaker drivers in the Flax Evo line, playing a key role in the reproduction and purity of the midranges as well as in the elimination of acoustic distortion, particularly when listening at high volumes.
