Note#2: MIRV = Multiple Independent Reentry Vehicle LGM-118 PEACEKEEPER ICBM: The LGM-118 Peacekeeper, originally know as the MX for Missile Experimental, was a MIRV capable intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) produced & developed by the United States from 1985 to 2005. The missile could carry up to 12 Mark-21 reentry Vehicles (Warheads), although treaty limited to 10 each, armed with a 300-kiloton W87 warhead. Basing Options: In July 1976, Congress refused to fund MX using a silo-based system on grounds of vulnerability, & the project was halted. Several new proposals were made for the alternative basing arrangements, including mobile basing in railway cars that would be sent out into the nation's rail network during times of heightened threat levels.
