Description: Fitzroya Cupressoides is a temperate conifer native to the Valdivian Temperate Rainforests of Chile. It is a member of the Cupressaceae family and is a member of the ancient Antarctic flora. It is one of the tallest conifers at up to 60m+, and is the tallest tree in South America. It is also incredibly long lived, with a specimen confirmed to be the third oldest tree in the world and contended to be the oldest with an age of 3,653–5,484, potentially older than Prometheus (the oldest Bristlecone pine). Listed for sale are 20 seeds of this rare and beautiful plant. These seeds are from a mix of two different sources for genetic diversity and robustness. These seeds have been stratified and are ready to plant. This tree prefers cool, moist climates and is hardy down to zone 7a [perhaps even 6b]. In the US, this corresponds to the PNW (coastal WA, OR, northern CA) and perhaps cooler parts of the coastal Northeast (Boston, Cape Cod, Long Island, etc) where trees with similar requirements (Araucaria Araucana) grow well.
