Description: Introduction:You may have noticed that my price is a bit higher than other eBay vendors. While that may be true, my price is based on offering a ready-to-use product that has been cleaned, adjusted and fine-tuned to work as designed. “Yes, you can buy a used Kanna on eBay for $30-$50 US, but you will not be buying a Kanna that is set up properly and ready to use. Disassembly, cleaning, sharpening of the blade and chip breaker, flattening of the sole of the Kanna and tuning it to the traditional two-contact-point configuration, then testing (see my videos of performance) will take you many hours, especially if you are untrained at setting up Japanese hand planes. It is generally said that even a carpenter needs five years to become proficient with a plane, and it is the most difficult tool among carpentry tools. My pricing includes all the work needed to restore the Kanna to a fine-tuned level of performance as shown in my videos. And it is ready for you to use right out of the box so you can focus on learning how to use the plane.============================================Product: This is a fine-tuned hand plane “Kanna” for ready to use. Please check video and photo and feel free to contact me for more details.光不動/Hikari-Fudou Size: 65mm, Sum/寸-6, Vintage Original. Blade: 65mm Wide (lower) x97mm Tall, used. The rust has been removed and it has been painted black.Blacksmith: Unknown. The left side of the blade is stamped with "Swordsmith", which suggests that the maker forged not only plane blades but also Japanese swords. With this information alone, it is not possible to identify the name of the smith. Chip-breaker:56mm Wide x 53mm Tall, used. Wood Bottom Dai: 81mm Wide x 268mm Length x 34mm Thickness, used. The surface of the Dai-sole is tuned in two-point touch. Since I used the original used Dai, the blade insertion was loose, so I applied epoxy resin to the insertion part. The blade mouth was relatively wide, so I narrowed it by adding filler wood. The gap is about 1mm, but it has almost no effect on the adjustment of the Chip-breaker cutting edge. In my video, I performed planing a SPF wood timber. Wood shavings leaped out from the Kanna were very thin like silk fabric. The words "Hikari Fudo" were written in ink on the top of the Dai. They were still there when I took the video and photos, but I had scraped them off before packaging, so the words are gone. The shavings from the test cutting video will be included in the package. It is ready-to-use, but please be sure to sharpen the cutting edge with a #6000grit whetstone or higher after opening the package.============================================You may think that the price is a little high. You can buy a used, unmaintained Kanna around $30 to $50 on the eBay, but if you don't have much experience with Kanna, maintaining it so that it can be used properly will not work even if you spend days doing it properly. It is generally said that even a carpenter needs five years to become proficient with a plane, and it is the most difficult tool among carpentry tools. To improve your Kanna skills, it is essential to first use a plane that has been fully maintained for immediate use. I think that the price is worth the time and effort of maintenance. In particular, the superiority of Japanese Kanna is more evident with a new base.============================================References: How to set-up Kanna: Learn – Learn – Kakuri Sangyo (kakuritools.com) Shipping: Japan POST, EMS, about 10-14 days.Note: Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges.
