Description: Antique teacup and saucer commemorating the service of British General Field Marshal Frederick Sleigh Roberts, 1st Earl Roberts, VC, KG, KP, GCB,OM, GCSI, GCIE, VD, PC, FRSGS (30 September 1832 – 14 November 1914). Roberts at the time of the creation of this cup and saucer set was the top general during the second Boer War. The cup is scalloped with an image of the general and the Union Jack and White Ensign flags. The back says "For Queen and Country". Inside the cup is a rifle and banner that says "For Freedom and Equal Rights". It also has a gold paint trim. The saucer is identical in design. This was made by Richard Hammersley Plant and his brother Simon Lucas Plant. They operated from the Tuscan Works in Forrister Street, Longton. It dates to the late 1890s. No chips or cracks. There are a few small spots on the cup. The inside has price tag residue. Please see photos for details. The plate is about 6.25" and the cup is 3" tall. Great for British military collectors and royalty collectors.
