Description: From F.H. Cowden’s Pottery of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania comes this hand crafted 1 gallon ovoid shaped primitive salt glazed jug. The floral spray was handpainted in the earlier darker cobalt blue typical of the glaze used 1860-1863, before Cowden took Isaac Wilcox as partner during the Civil War. No cracks/hairlines/restoration noted. 3 chips noted to outer spout, easily seen in photos. Floral blue glaze shows burst bubbles/blanches from the firing process (see photos.) 1 area, seen in photos, of lower petal glaze loss from process. Potter’s marks noted on the body. Blue glaze also highlights the handle terminals. A few drip marks noted from candle wax during use (I opted not to remove.) Dimensions: 11” height; 7” width at belly; 6” width at base; 5lbs 3oz weight.
