Description: This Spectacular Fenton One of a Kind Basket is signed Levay OOAK 1982. It is magnificent in every way. This exquisite basket was handcrafted in the USA and has the Fenton in the oval introduced in 1970 on carnival glass pieces. Fenton ceased production in 2007. The body of this basket has the time-honored look of Carnival Glass but when you hold it up to light the real splendor shines through as shown in a photograph provided and the attractive clear glass powder blue almost azure handle has the look of bamboo, this basket sits on a clear glass powder blue round pedestal. The body of the basket measures approximately 11”tall and 8”wide and 3½“high and with the handle it stands 9½“tall and the round powder blue base has a diameter of 3¾“. Fenton was the largest manufacturer of handmade colored glass in the United States, and the company is renowned for innovative glass colors as well as hand painted decorations on pressed and blown glassware. This One of a Kind is signed by Levay and some collectors might be familiar with the Intaglio Glass Studio that was once located in a defunct schoolhouse in Alton, Illinois. Gary Levi had a long connection with the Fenton Art Glass Company that began in the 1970’s, this eventually led to his buying of Fenton cullet when his glass studio needed glass to make their own glass creations. The unique aspect of this arrangement being that the colors used were not a part of Fenton’s regular line. Most of this glass was signed by the glass company but only a few had a Levay logo pressed into it or otherwise marked a Levay Glass (branding). The newer items 1980-1990 were signed and also numbered. In 1984 Gary Levi stopped having Limited Edition carnival glass made under the name of Levay.
