Description: Original lead bullets excavated from the Chancellorsville Battlefield in Virginia. These are what we call “drops” that have never been fired. Relic hunting the battlefield for years it was surprising how many bullets were dropped in battle and not picked up. Most of these had paper cartridges which may have been torn open and then discarded when taken out of their cartridge box or they could have been wet. There are both Federal and Confederate issue rounds while some like the .69 Musket Ball were used by both sides. The Spencer and Burnside Carbine rounds are both Federal issue and used a metallic cartridge; they were both used by the cavalry branch of service. The bullets are lead; they have developed the white patina from oxidation in the ground. The Federal issue .56 Smith Carbine used a rubber cartridge. The Battle of Chancellorsville was fought from April 30 to May 6, 1863, near the village of Chancellorsville. Two related battles were fought nearby on May 3 in the vicinity of Fredericksburg. The campaign pitted Union Army Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker's “Army of the Potomac” against an army less than half its size, General Robert E. Lee's Confederate “Army of Northern Virginia”. The hand made solid Oak frame is 9” x 12” (glass) in size. All of the frame and display work was done in our cabinet shop here in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The frame is ready to hang. The wire is recessed which allows the frame to rest flat back to the wall as in a museum mount. The “bumpons” on each back corner protect the wall and keep the frame level. The certificate will have the information on the bullets and other artifacts which can be taped to the back of the frame for reference. All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph and description of the items purchased. The documents pictured will also come with the set. Please see our "About” on front page for more information on the framing and artifacts.
