Description: Vintage Favre Leuba Sea Chief 'Twin Power' Cal. 251 Swiss Watch. Favre Leuba is the second oldest watch company in the world established in 1737 and is still making watches today. Favre Leuba were a pioneer in dive and moutineering watches in the 50's and 60's. Calibre 251 is known as 'Twin Power' as unlike most watches the mechanisum has two power reserve barrels. Dial: Although Favre Leuba did make Sea Chiefs in this colour, I suspect this is a 'refreshed' dial. Good points - unusual colour, raised FL hour glass logo which is not just printed on. Poorer points - The hour markers are tarnished and the chapter ring is too small and there is a gap by 3. See pics. Grade B-. Crystal: Acrylic, re polished. Case: Nice condition with few minor scratches which are barely visible . 35mm excluding crown. Grade A. Crown: Signed Favre Leuba original. Strap: Black Leather. Movement: Very clean original Favre Leuba Twin Barrel Swiss movement keeping good time. Grade A. Please note that this watch is over 60 years old and predates modern quartz movements. Therefore, +-3 represents 99.9% accuracy. You will get a watch that ticks, and the second hand 'sweeps' in a way that a modern watch never can. The watch winds by wearing it! Please see my other listings for more watches. Comes in a box, which is not original and there are no original papers. Photo's form part of the description, please view them carefully. Sold as seen. Buyer assumes responsibility for taxes and import duties if outside the UK. All postage is signed for. If you have any issues or questions, we can solve them, just contact us – there is a reason why we have 100% feedback! Thank you for viewing! Grading – Guide only – whilst we try to be as accurate as possible this is our own opinion. Please note we do not compare vintage manufacturing to modern manufacturing – a modern Seiko will be more accurate, have better polishing and finer detail on the dial than a 70’s Rolex. A++ Perfect. Looks never worn – ‘New Old Stock’. As close to new as you can get for a preowned watch. This is the equivalent of a new watch that does not have the original manufacture’s protective plastic (if applicable). If you remove the protective plastic from a brand new watch, and have not yet worn the watch, it is now in Super Mint Condition. It may or may not come with original box or papers. It is working properly, keeping very good time. A+ Near perfect. Looks like new on the wrist. Signs of wear are only visible with a loupe or very close examination. The band has no stretch or wear. The watch is working properly, keeping very good time. A Super nice. Light signs of wear. Watches with the original band will have moderate to minimal stretch between the links. The watch is working properly, keeping good time. B Nice. Signs of wear. Depending on the age of the timepiece, watches with the original band will have loose or moderate stretch and wear between the links. The watch is working properly, keeping good time for a vintage watch. C Fair. Signs of heavy wear. Watch may have a few dings, nicks, or deep scratches The band has severe stretch between the links. The watch is working, but may gain or lose a few minutes over 24 hours. D Poor but runs. Signs of extreme heavy wear, damage, or abuse. Major cosmetic and/or mechanical flaws that directly affect the integrity of the watch. E The watch may be missing parts and/or may not run at all. We do not recommend this watch to be worn in this condition. Requires a lot of work to be made wearable. This timepiece is most suitable for: o A watchmaker looking for a “parts” watch so they can use the “usable” parts to service or restore their customer’s watches. o A buyer that is looking for a challenging “fixer upper” watch. A speculative timepiece. They understand that lot of work must be done to this watch to be made wearable. o A buyer that is looking to replace a “lost” or “family heirloom” watch that in this condition. For many people, a Rolex is so much more than just a timepiece.
