The Inhumans" is the title of this nearly-60 year-old copy of Fantastic Four issue 45, published by Marvel in 1965 and brought to you by the immortal team of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and featuring the first ever appearance of the Inhumans, including Black Bolt, Crystal, Karnak, Triton and Lockjaw. I've had this book for decades, and it was well-cared for, stored away virtually undisturbed in all that time. Before offering it for sale, I carefully took the time to eyeball each page to make sure there was nothing obvious hiding in there that might otherwise be missed. Here is the generally-accepted description of a VG/FN comic book (as you can find on multiple online grading websites): 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. Blunted corners are increasingly common, as is minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and minor stress lines may also be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present. (I include this description so you can refer to it while following along with my observations below.) As this is a pricey KEY ISSUE, I've taken the time to be extremely thorough... This book is flat as can be and still retains a good amount of its original shine. It is also smooth to the touch, and you'll find next to no cover wrinkling on this one. "Minor to moderate cover wear" is pretty accurate here, and if you look at the photos, you'll see that along the edges (and it is rather minor for the most part). Also has the requisite minor creases that you can make out in the two right corners -- all par for the course at this grade. But the ink is still plenty bright, and the color nice, so it's better in that department than allowed. Slightly blunted corners with no staining -- in fact, I don't see any smudge on either side when I hold the book up to the light. I ran my finger over that little spot on Sue's left arm, and it's smooth, so it does not appear to be a tear, and indeed it doesn't show on the inside cover at all, so it's apparently just a small color anomaly. No printing defects are observed, and I see no date or arrival stamps. Seems a mite bit better overal than what is described above. Spine shows the moderate wear you'd expect from a book that's been read a couple of times before, with some color breaks and little stress lines, but absolutely no spine roll, no tears, no splits, no discolored or rusty staples, both of which look good and do indeed go all the way through to the centerfold. Worn? Sure, but still structurally solid, and you're allowed a few color breaks even at FN condition, so this also seems better than above. Back cover clearly not as white as it must have been a half-century ago, but is smooth and clean with only a little surface build-up here and there. I see one little speck of something to the left of the third column of text that shows in the photos, but even held up to the light, there's next to nothing to report. No folds, creases, foxing dots -- this back is solid -- again better than the above. Inner covers show some of that Silver Age tanning that is so common of books from this era, but seem quite clean. And the pages are cream to off-white, and outside of a couple of minor margin tears (which are allowed even all the way up to 8.0 copies -- I showed a close-up of a couple -- these really are minor), they all all looked good when I carefully leafed through the book with no sign of brittleness, and everything seems well attached. Pages not at all "tan to brown," and the interior side of the staples were even shiny still. Everything clearly better than what's allowed. Bottom line is that this book is clearly better than what is allowed for the VG/FN description above, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it straight-up FN, so I split the difference to come up with the FN- grade. It's a solid copy that presents well, and I think you'll be happy with it. Do your research and find the other copies listed out there that claim that they're around this condition, and you'll find copies that are clearly more worn or wrinkled than this one, or they give you two pictures only and don't even take the time to describe the book, so you're left with no idea of what you're getting, so how on earth would you even know? See what they're asking, and you'll find that this copy is competitively priced -- and where will you get more details than what I've provided? ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE! You won't get this level of detailed evaluation and camera angles anywhere else -- look at my feedback and you'll see "item as described" posted over and over again! I cannot believe other sellers expect you to make a purchase decision with just one or two photos -- ridiculous -- you always see what you're getting from me!
