Description: Pound's homage to his friend, the sculptor Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, who met Pound in London in July, 1913, and died in the First World War in June, 1915. This book contains Gaudier-Brzeska's essay on Vorticism, an important directive for 20th century sculpture, correspondence, and a number of black & white plates showing photographs of the artist, his sculptures and illustrations, as well as Pound's recollections of Gaudier. This copy is Gallup A10c. English Re-issue; Laidlaw and Laidlaw; [1939]. Bound using 250 sheets from the original 1916 John Lane, The Bodley Head publication, 1916. However this issue sees only 30 of the 38 plates in the original; each plate has its number cancelled out; plates are grouped differently than in the first edition. Two tiny worm-holes to spine, a small tear to the bottom of the front board, very minor grubbying to both boards. First few leaves see foxing, others very minor occasional foxing (the leaves are from 1916); endpapers from 1939 are without foxing or browning. Overall near fine condition, a great read for students of Pound, Vorticism, 20th century art, and a handy reference to the works of Gaudier-Brzeska.
