It’s hard to list stamps as “extremely rare”, yet minimal can be found about this stamp. Spidsbergen, or sometimes Spitzbergen, is the largest prominently populated island of the Svalbard Archipelago, off the northern coast of Norway. These stamps are listed on eBay as “Local Norway”, yet this 5ø stamp isn’t listed. There are no known numbering systems for this stamp. It is in obviously Postally used condition, but is otherwise clean and crisp. It’s well centered. Which is nice to have on such an interesting stamp. In 2020, it’s estimated that the postulation of this Island is 2,939 people. That’s where this is rare. The last picture looks as if it’s part of the paper; it’s smooth to the touch and doesn’t go through, making a hole through the stamp. Possibly Granite Paper? It appears to be brown ink on forest green. The scene depicts what is probably polar bears, a ship sailing from the sun setting on the horizon, and the Arctic surroundings. It looks more like badgers fighting though? This is most certainly an interesting stamp to add to any serious collection, and will definitely add some talking points at the same time. Postage is set to $0.58 without a tracking number. If you purchase multiple items, shipping will be combined and the difference will be refunded through eBay. Thank you for looking and check back often for more interesting items. When you’ve got time, check out my other stamps for sale; there are a lot.
