Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Here we have an early 1800s tea bowl, part of a wonderful collection of attractively decorated blue incised yellow ware. This tea bowl is attractively molded with a warm yellow clay that nicely contrasts with the blue incised bands around the rim and base. The thin incised bands are perfectly formed and infilled with blue slip. These were called both tea bowls and waste bowls, their purpose was to hold used tea leaves. During the early 1800s, tea was a valuable commodity that was reused several times before being discarded. The form of tea bowls is always consistent, they always have flared sides and a molded raised foot. Measuring 2 ½” in height by 4 ¾” wide across the rim, this tea bowl survives in its original mint condition with no damage or repairs. This is an extremely rare find that would enhance and be highly prized in any yellow ware or country collection.
