Frank Stella (1936 - 2024) is an American painter, sculptor, and printmaker known for his contributions to the development of abstract art in the 20th century. Stella became a prominent figure in the art world during the 1950s and 1960s, particularly associated with the Minimalist and Post-Painterly Abstraction movements. Stella's art is characterized by its emphasis on form, color, and the relationship between the artwork and its environment. Always on the leading edge of both art and technology, the Scarlatti K series, begun in 2006, consists of eight works by Stella for which he used a 3-D printer to create the metal and resin segments. In the 2010s, Stella started using the computer as a painting tool, and in 2022, launched his first NFT (non-fungible token) for his Geometries project in collaboration. He was active up until the last few months of his death from Lymphoma.
