Description: China, Zhejiang 15” high CWS- 12348 - F2270 Qing Dynasty Circular woven basket in two sections constructed with wooden bottoms and coiled bamboo frame and handle. The sides of the two compartments are finely woven in an open pattern and superimposed with a mesh pattern that is enclosed by coiled bamboo held in place by bamboo pegs. The handle is of three sections of split bamboo with a decorative pattern, and attached to the lower section with bamboo pegs; the top of this circular basket with checker weave basketry sides is painted in gold on black lacquer ground with a twined weave border. The basket retains most of the lacquer covering.
