Description: LIVING ESTATE SALE (Details at the end of description) MA/AI For your consideration is a Wilesco D16 made in Germany in the 1970s.This engine was likely one of the last batch produced with the sophisticated whistle/pressure relief valve system. It was perfect but Wilesco decided to cut down the cost and eliminated the beautiful but costly accessory. The circa is probably between 1975 and 1980. If you are looking for a brand new Wilesco D16 with the intention of using it, save a bundle and get this one instead. After a couple of uses, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.A brand new one is currently around $350. This engine is truly as good as they come for having been fired. It has been air tested (video) and should not give much trouble to operate on steam. Sometimes an old gasket could have dried up, needing replacement. Hopefully it won't be the case. This engine is 100% complete, including the original box that is a bit fatigued. At that time, Wilesco used corrugated boxes. They did a good job protecting the content, but didn't age very well. The engine is 100% original, including the original directions. It has been fired but was obviously a cherished toy and was well cared for.Sure, it can use a good clean-up. After all, it's almost 50 years old, but I hardly saw any corrosion, scratches or dents. There is one thing : it was used with tap water. The calcium contained in tap water will stain the water level glass. It usually cleans up well after boiling a mixture of (distilled) water and vinegar a couple of times. Adding CLR helps. You will need some solid fuel pellets (anywhere camping supplies are sold) and distilled water is highly recommended. This model is still in production, with some modifications. Condition :They just don't come any better than this one ! This Live Steam Engine is in excellent condition. It has been air tested (video) and should not give much trouble to operate on steam. It is 100% complete, including the original box that is a bit fatigued. It is 100% original with the original directions. Besides a thorough cleaning, there is nothing negative to report about this engine. I would rate it a C7/C8. VERY IMPORTANT : I am offering four shipping options. You can check the cost by clicking next to shipping on "See Details" or make your choice at take-out. The default is usually UPS Ground as Expedited Shipping can be expensive and is not necessarily more reliable. Please keep in mind that I do not control the cost of shipping that is calculated by eBay.Free pick-up is always available (Rock Hill, SC). LESS IMPORTANT : Items are packed and ready for shipping when I make the listing. Combined shipping cannot be done if one item is larger than 8 x 8 x 8 packed. If it is possible, smaller items can be combined upon request prior to the payment. Guarantee : Item is guaranteed to be as described. I am a very honest seller hoping to deal with honest buyers. If I know something is wrong, I will disclose it but I certainly can make an honest mistake and will do my very best to correct it. Warning : Many of these older collectibles are not in compliance with today's safety standards. It is the responsibility of the buyer to determine whether or not they are still suitable for their intended purpose. Adult supervision is indispensable with any steam engine. Packaging :Items are packed carefully and should remain undamaged through a standard level of care during handling. LIVING ESTATE SALE DETAILS :I had my first steam engine when I was 9 years old. That was 65 years ago. I have been collecting them for 25 years and I am now 74. None of my descendants is interested in the collection, so I decided that it was time to liquidate. As of December 2024, I still have over 1,300 engines of all kinds to list. I believe in full disclosure. It takes me about an hour to list one item, between the assessment, the testing, the video, the photos, the description and the very careful packaging. I try to have very reasonable prices. At comparable quality, my prices are probably the lowest on the market.
