Description: Up for sale is a trade paperback book, "Excavations at Thera II (1969 Season) by Spyridon Marinatos. Published in 1970 in Athens. Appears to be a first edition. Primarily black and white illustrations (Plates) and a few color illustrations. A few fold out plans in the back of the book. Ancient Thera is the name of an archaeological site from classical antiquity on the island of Santorini, which sits on the top of a limestone hill called Mesa Vouno. Starting in 1895, Friedrich Hiller Von Gaertrinen systematically investigated the city until 1904. Later excavations by N. Zapheiropoulos between 1961 and 1982, under the auspices of the Archaeological Society of Athens, unearthed the city's necropolis in Sellada. Findings from these excavations are on exhibit at the archaeological museum in Fira. The cover has edge and corner wear with marks, stains and it's tan from age. Some writing on the inside of the front cover, marks here and there on the pages and the binding is firm. US buyers $5.50 shipping.
