Description: The Evidences of Christianity. By William Paley, D.D., Archdeacon of Carlisle. 391 pages including a life of the Author. Published by S. King, 136 William-Street, New York, 1824. Small (5.25 in x 3 in x 1.25 in) leather-bound hardcover with 4-paneled, 5-banded decorative gilt spine. All original with no repairs, no re-binding. Solid, square, tight binding with no loose or missing pages; gilt on spine is mostly clear, especially "Paley's Works" on the maroon panel; some wear on corners and edges of boards and spine; a small chip on lower right side of spine. Interior has no major damage, lots of minor issues common to 200-year-old books: browning of pages; a few corner folds at page tops; tiny chips at some page edges; bottoms of many pages show light moisture stains; former owner's signature at top of inside front cover; juvenile drawings of boxes on inside front cover and first free end paper. Overall, this is a very nice copy of a book that has seen two centuries.
