Description: Original painting, excellent condition. Signed, art measures 6.5x8.5” Frame measures14x15”. Bio: Painter, lithographer, etcher. Born in San Diego, CA April 13, 1893. Frandzen spent his childhood in San Diego. During the years 1911-17 he studied at the AIC. While serving in the Army during during the last months of WWI, he sketched in France. After the war he had a commercial art studio in NYC where he did cover designs and illustrations for magazines and book publishers. During this time he studied at the ASL and Grand Central Art School under Dean Cornwell and Pruett Carter. While there, he painted many winter scenes of the Catskill Mountains and did drawings of NYC which he later used for his etchings and lithographs. Returning to California in 1937, he settled in Pasadena and began painting and sketching throughout southern California. He was equally facile with gouache, watercolor, oil, and charcoal. He wrote several art books for the Walter Foster Company and taught printmaking on his antique press to small groups. He exhibited regularly in both local and national shows and was active in Pasadena until his death in Orange, CA on July 5, 1972.
