ERROL FLYNN - CONTRACT SIGNED 03/12/1952 - HFSID 274985 ERROL FLYNN The enormously popular actor signed this contract allowing for the rearrangement of his recording scheduled for the Modern Adventures of Casanova series Contract signed: "Errol Flynn" on page 2 under "Approved and Accepted", 2p, 8½x11, separate sheets. Hollywood, California, 1952 March 12. On letterhead of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Radio Attractions, Culver City, California to Flynn regarding re-arrangement of his schedule for recording programs for the Modern Adventures of Casanova series. In part: "You have advised us that it is necessary for you to leave Los Angeles today, March 12, 1952 and go to Nassau, Bahama Islands in connection with certain litigation pending there...you have requested that a re-arrangement be made in our schedules for the recording of programs of the 'MODERN ADVENTURES OF CASANOVA' Series under your contract with us dated November 15, 1951...We will not call upon you to render your services under said contract until April 10, 1952. You agree that you will report back to us at Los Angeles, California on April 10, 1952 and commencing on said date you will render your services exclusively for us for a period of ten (10) days...you hereby waive the provisions of said contract requiring that the scripts be made available to you prior to the recording of the programs...Except for the re-arrangement of schedules...said contract between you and us dated November 15, 1951, as supplemented and amended is not hereby supplemented, amended or affected in any manner or particular whatsoever...." Also signed by a representative of Marcus Loew Booking Agency. Accompanied by copies of two unsigned letters between Flynn and Leslie Peterson, the representative from Marcus Loew Booking Agency, relating to the change in the recording of the programs mentioned in the document. Flynn had previously agreed to record between eight and 21 programs of Modern Adventures of Casanova. His request to change his recording schedule was approved by Peterson, with certain conditions. Shortly after he signed this document, a debt-ridden Flynn would leave for Europe, where he unsuccessfully tried to revive his career. In 1952, Flynn appeared in only two films, Mara Maru and Against All Flags. Swashbuckling, high-living Australian-born actor Errol Flynn (1909-1959) starred in such adventure epics as Captain Blood (1935), The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), They Died With Their Boots On (as Custer, 1941) and Objective, Burma! (1945). Flynn, who had begun experimenting with drugs in the 1940s, was later troubled by lawsuits, such as the one mentioned in this letter, and ongoing issues with the I.R.S. Also known for his excessive lifestyle, Flynn had the body of a 75-year-old man when he died of a heart attack at age 50. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Staple holes and two file holes at upper blank margins. Carbon black marks at left margin of first page. Otherwise, fine condition.
